Topping off the Oktoberfest Festival was the 2nd annual Ball Drop and it was a great success thanks to the UW Special Events Committee! Due to poor weather conditions, the ball drop was moved from the Maytag Pool Park to the Newton YMCA gym. Despite the location change, we had a lot of fun! 722 ping pong balls were dropped from the running track in the YMCA gym into plastic cups on the gym floor that were numbered to correspond to the prizes. Top prizes included a one week condo stay in Keystone, CO (transportation excluded) 1- $500 cash prize, 2 - $250 cash prizes, stock car ride along at the Iowa Speedway in the 2010 race season, 2 Iowa Hawkeye football tickers against Minnesota, and 4 Newton Club Tickets for the 2010 Indy Race & Parking Pass. The remaining 16 prizes were valued at a minimum of $50. Balls were purchased 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. $3,155 was raised by this special fundraising event!
