Most of us are lucky enough to have a family member or friend who is special to us – the type of person you like to remember with a gift on special occasions.
Because you strongly valued your relationship, you may want to commemorate this special friend or relative through a memorial gift. Creating a thoughtful remembrance will demonstrate appreciation for the treasured moments you shared – and also help your community through United Way.
There are two options for memorializing.
The Special Needs Memorial will use your gift for one-time venture grants to provide special programs as well as start up grants to meet emerging and emergency needs outside the regular United Way Campaign.
The Endowment Memorial will use your gift for the long-term viability of United Way, ensuring that a healthy community is here for your children and grandchildren.
Memorial gifts can be cash contributions, often by check. They are convenient for the giver and help fulfill immediate needs. An acknowledgement card is sent immediately to the surviving family, letting them know of your gift without disclosing the amount.
Another type of memorial can be established by will. Most often, such memorials honor the memory of a husband, wife, child, or other family member. They are planned with the help of a United Way representative and your financial advisor. They may be small or large enough to fund a major project or worthy cause. Any type of asset, such as cash, stocks, or bonds, can be given to help further our work.
Regardless of the method, what is most important is that a person special to you is remembered according to your wishes. And further, that remembrance can bring many benefits to others who can lead a healthier life with your help.
